Panic Tennis is a special type of tennis where extreme limits are placed on how much time players have to make your round. While many modern rounds can take from hours to weeks to be created, panic matches tend to only allow a hour at most, down to a single minute in extreme cases.

Panic matches tend to go incredibly fast, with entire matches taking place in a few days or less. dani_phantump vs. GameBop vs. superkoffee(2012) was the earliest match in this variant to be played, which was then followed by a larger multi-way sequel that featured the first two players from the above match as well as vel 17, CaptainStringCheese, Viravax, BMATF, lordbababa, and Bloodis.

Layout

Panic matches tend to go longer than the usual 6 rounds of "vanilla" tennis, usually just to prolong already short games. The usual panic match will go to 10-12 rounds.

Two major types of panic tennis exist:

  • Pick a timeframe for building rounds, which remains static for the entire match.
  • Start at a particular number of minutes/etc. to make your round, and increase it/decrease it per rotation. For example, the first rotation (rounds 1 and 2) only let you work for 5 minutes, while the next rotation allows for 10, then 15, etc. This can make things more interesting as players have to adapt to more or less time as the match goes on.

The time refers to the time it takes to BUILD the video, NOT how long the video is. The video's duration can be as long as you want!

  1. The first player sets a timer (usually ten minutes to start), and makes as much as they can in that time. Once time is up, they drop what they're doing, render, and upload.
  2. The second player does the same thing for round two.
  3. Player 1 makes round 3 given more/less/the same amount of time as the previous rotation.
  4. This continues until the match is over.
