While it is considered the spiritual successor to YTPMania, YellowTealPurple focused on a much broader range of art, through videos, images, and more. As said in its introduction, it is "not youchew".

The name comes from the acronym for Youtube Poop; You = Yellow, Tube = Teal, Poop = Purple - but it was also chosen because the name by itself does not directly elicit "poop" associations - honouring its roots, but allowing room for expansion.

It's initial roots come from a relatively joke term used interchangeably by GameBop and MycroProcessor in select tennis rounds produced independently by the pair in 2010 and 2011.

Many YouChew veterans, including a substantial amount who never made an account on YTPMania, have joined the site, including a few from the former site's earliest years who resumed visible internet activity completely.

Towards the end of 2024, it was announced that YTPMania would be going down at the end of the year. The webmaster Smonge had less and less drive to continue maintaining the forum when it was already quite inactive, so it was determined the plug would be pulled on December 31st, 2024.

A new forum site to replace YTPMania had been proposed and speculated since Smonge's first departure from the community in the early 2020's; one of these was the ill-fated Pinchbacks, as well as Retrospections' RemixSphere project. In October of 2024, the groundwork for YellowTealPurple had been proposed- the name coined by MemeKirisame- and with funding and a server being found later than month, it looked like a successor would finally happen.

Much of its structure and purpose was dictated by , who initially was involved from only a small visual design perspective but ended up having a large amount of input in discussions about the future site, from its look, to its functionality, organization and its intended collective energy. Much of the site's core administration in its initial years has operated under their guidance, with above average care being taken to maintain a calm, friendly, peaceful and casual community atmosphere as opposed to the chaos and toxicity of previous sites.

On March 9th, 2025, after roughly 4 months of user testing, the "de-YTPification" of the website was undertaken; all references to YTP in any way were removed. In its place were blanket terms related to "video art"/"video tennis"/etc. The age limit was set to 16+ sitewide; it originally was 13+ only for the YTP section but this was deemed unconstructive.
